SOSYAL ÇALIŞMACILARIN EMPATİ OYUNU VASITASIYLA ENGELLİ BİREYLERE YÖNELİK GÖRÜŞLERİNİN BELİRLENMESİ

Abstract

Bu makalede, sosyal çalışmacıların ve sosyal hizmet öğrencilerinin empati oyunu aracılığıyla engelli bireylere yönelik görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Engelli bireylere yönelik empati oyunu, sosyal çalışmacılarının ve sosyal hizmet bölümü öğrencilerinin engelli bireylerin deneyimlerini ve zorluklarını daha iyi anlamalarına yardımcı olarak, bu bireylere yönelik tutum ve davranışlarını geliştirmeyi hedefleyen bir araçtır. Çalışmanın ana evreni sosyal çalışmacılar ve sosyal hizmet öğrencileri olup, çalışma grubu 152 katılımcıdan oluşmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ve kişisel bilgi formu, engellilerle empati kurabilme konusuna odaklanırken aynı zamanda katılımcılara esneklik sağlayarak onların düşüncelerini paylaşmalarını ve duygularını özgürce ifade etmelerini sağlamaktadır. Çalışmada katılımcılar tekerlekli sandalyede ve/veya gözleri bağlı bir şekilde engelli bir yetişkinin günlük hayatında yapacağı işleri (su içme, lavabo kullanma, asansör kullanma, merdiven inip-çıkma, vb.) simüle etmişlerdir. Sosyal hizmet perspektifiyle geliştirilen bu engellilere yönelik empati simülasyon çalışmasında, güvensizlik, yalnızlık, kaygılanma, çaresizlik gibi duygular; muhtaçlık, zorluk gibi olgular; desteklenme, iletişim, sosyalleşme, empati, toplumsal yaşama katılım, eksiklikleri giderme gibi istekler çalışmanın ana temaları ve kavramlarını oluşturmaktadır. Sonuç olarak çalışmada katılımcılar, engellilerin günlük yaşamını deneyimlemiş, bu deneyim sonucunda da engellilerin günlük yaşamda karşılaştıkları zorlukları anlamış ve buna bağlı olarak da algısal ve duygusal değişimler yaşamışlardır. Dolayısıyla katılımcıların engellilerle empati kurma yeteneklerinin geliştiği gözlenmiştir. Engellilere yönelik empati simülasyonunun sosyal hizmet uygulamalarında ve eğitiminde yararlı bir şekilde kullanabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.

DETERMINIG SOCIAL WORKERS' VIEWS ON DISABLED PEOPLE THROUGH THE EMPATHY GAME

Abstract

This article aims to determine the views of social workers and social work students towards disabled individuals through an empathy game. The empathy game for individuals with disabilities is a tool designed to help social workers and social work students better understand the experiences and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, and to improve their attitudes and behaviors towards these individuals. The main universe of the study is social workers and social work students, and the study group consists of 152 participants. The semi-structured interview form and personal information form used as data collection tools focus on the issue of empathizing with disabled people while also providing flexibility to the participants, allowing them to share their thoughts and express their feelings freely. In the study, the participants simulated the daily tasks that a disabled adult would do in a wheelchair and/or blindfolded (drinking water, using the sink, using the elevator, going up and down the stairs, etc.). In this empathy simulation study for disabled people developed from a social work perspective, emotions such as insecurity, loneliness, anxiety, helplessness; phenomena such as need and difficulty; The main themes and concepts of the study include requests for support, communication, socialization, empathy, participation in social life, and elimination of deficiencies. As a result, the participants in the study experienced the daily lives of the disabled, and as a result of this experience, they understood the difficulties that the disabled face in daily life and experienced perceptual and emotional changes accordingly. Therefore, it was observed that the participants' ability to empathize with the disabled improved. It was concluded that empathy simulation for the disabled could be used beneficially in social work practices and education.
