Self Determination in Social Work

Abstract

The main focus of social work profession is the interaction between individual and his/her environment that affect their functioning capacity in society. Social worker devise professional interventions in order to develop social functioning of individuals, families, groups, organisations and societies. One of the ethical principle of social work is self determination which is defined as an individual’s right to make chocies and control his or her own life. In this article, self determination which is one of the most fundamental concept of social work, its historical developments, definitions, scope and usage in social work has been examined.

Sosyal Hizmette Kendi Kaderini Tayin Hakkı

Abstract

Sosyal hizmet mesleğinin mesleki etkinliğinin odağı, bireylerin toplum içindeki işlevsellik yeteneğini belirleyen birey ve çevresi arasındaki etkileşimdir. Sosyal hizmet uzmanları, birey, aile, grup, örgüt ve toplumların sosyal işlevselliklerini geliştirmek için mesleki müdahaleler tasarlarlar. Sosyal hizmet müdahalesine rehberlik eden temel ilkelerden biri, tercih yapmak ve yaşamını kontrol etmek olarak tanımlanan kendi kaderini tayin hakkıdır (self determination). Bu makalede, sosyal hizmetin temel etik ilkelerinden biri olan “kendi kaderini tayin hakkı” kavramının tarihsel gelişimi, tanımı, kapsamı ve sosyal hizmette kullanımı ele alınmaktadır.
