Anti-Immigration of the Alternative for Germany Party
Abstract
Alternative for Germany (AfD/Alternative für Deutschland) party has achieved a great success with 12.6 percent of vote in German federal elections 2017. The party has especially emphasized to anti-immigration, xenophobia, and anti-Islam during in its programme and campaigns of election. Party’s hard critics concerning refugee policy of Angela Merkel governments, rise of far-right populist parties in European countries, and increase in migration to Europe after the Arab Spring have caused to strengthen of party. Other political parties have also trenchant their discourses with effect of the AfD. This paper will examine the anti-immigration of AfD with reference to literature as well as official discourses of members and leader of the party. Party’s anti-immigration will be chronologically dealt with from 2013, when the party is founded, to 2018. So, the study is aimed to contribute to the literature on approach of populist/far-right parties of European towards migration issue.
