Objective: In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of swiss ball training on 50 meter butterfly style swimming performance.
Method: The experimental group was consisted by n=15 female swimmers and the control group was consisted by n=15 female swimmers. The total number of study group is n=30 and they have been licenced in Marmara Dynamic Sports Club for 2 years. Before 8-week-trainings, 50 meter butterfly swimming times were recorded. While swiss ball training and basic swimming trainings were carried out for 8 weeks, the control group continued their swimming training depending on yearly training plans. After 8 week training program 50 meter butterfly stroke swimming times were recorded. IBM SPSS 21.00 package program was used for statistical analysis. Mann Whitney U test and Wilcoxon test were chosen to be applied.
Results: In the obtained findings, significant difference was found between pre (32,95 ± 1,86 sec) and post-test(30,68 ± 1,85 sec) butterfly stroke swimming times in experimental group(p<0,05). However, no significant difference was found between pre (33,23±1,52 sec) and post-test (32,66±1,74 sec) butterfly stroke swimming times in control group(p>0,05). When the post test results of experimental and control group were compared, significant difference was found(p<0,05). In addition, when the 10-second and 15-second maximal results of Swiss ball training values were compared, 15-second repetitions were found to be more effective than 10-second repetitions.
Conclusion: As a result, it was concluded that the swiss ball trainings have positive effect to improve swimming performance on swimmers.
