Abstract

Abstract

During the tests to be performed on athletes, temporal limitations arise. It is not known whether different methods can be safely applied instead of each other. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of Q angle with jump and landing mechanics in female volleyball players. The research group consisted of 48 young female athletes who played at the infrastructure level in Istanbul and Kocaeli provinces. Anthropometric measurements, Q angle, Landing Error Scoring System (LESS), Vertical Jump (VJ) tests were applied to the female volleyball athletes participating in the study. The Q angle and LESS scores were determined with the Kinovea free software. The My Jump 2 mobile application was used to calculate the vertical jump height. When the obtained data were examined, there was no positive relationship between Q angle, LESS scores, and VJ height (p > 0.05). A positive relationship was found between the Q angle and the knee deceleration at the first contact upon landing (r = 0.292, p<0.05). A positive relationship was found between knee valgus and LESS scores before deceleration (r = 0.482, p<0.05). When our research results are examined, there is no relationship between Q angle, LESS scores, and VJ height. The presence of a positive relationship between the Q angle and the knee valgus at the first contact upon landing is due to the relationship of the Q angle with the knee valgus. A positive relationship was found between the LESS score and the knee valgus before deceleration. This shows the effect of the Q angle on the LESS scores, which are an indicator of the risk of anterior cruciate ligament injury. Interventions to reduce the Q angle may affect LESS scores, jumps, and landing mechanics.
