Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
Scientific studies submitted to Siirt Journal of Social Research (SJSR) must adhere to the recommendations of the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) and the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) International Standards for Editors and Authors.

PUBLICATION ETHICS
Ethics Committee Approval: Studies requiring ethics committee approval (including surveys, interviews, observations, document/image analyses, or any research involving human/animal subjects—whether in social sciences, clinical trials, or experimental studies) must obtain prior approval from relevant ethics boards. This approval must be stated in the manuscript and documented. Submissions without proper authorisation will be returned during preliminary review.
Ethics Statement: For studies requiring ethics approval, details (committee name, date, and approval number) must be included in the Methods section and on the first/last page of the manuscript. Case reports must declare that informed consent was obtained.
Copyright Compliance: Proper attribution must be given for any intellectual or artistic works used.
Data Transparency: Raw data must be provided upon request during peer review and retained for potential post-publication verification.

PLAGIARISM POLICY
Manuscripts must be submitted with an originality report from a plagiarism detection tool (e.g., iThenticate, intihal.net). The maximum acceptable similarity rate is 20%. Submissions exceeding this threshold will be rejected during initial screening.

AUTHOR ETHICS
Originality & Attribution: Authors must guarantee the originality of their work and properly cite others’ ideas, text, images, graphs, or tables. Uncited use constitutes plagiarism.
Authorship Responsibility: All listed authors share equal responsibility for the content. Ghost authorship (excluding contributors) or gift authorship (including non-contributors) is unacceptable.
Data Integrity: Findings must be reported truthfully. Fabrication, falsification, selective data omission, or manipulation is prohibited.
Duplicate Submission: Simultaneous submission to multiple journals or resubmission of previously published work is not permitted.

REVIEWER ETHICS
Confidentiality: Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and not share manuscript details with third parties.
Timely & Objective Evaluation: Reviews must be unbiased, scientific, constructive, and submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
Comprehensive Assessment: Reports should evaluate the manuscript’s scientific merit (topic relevance, methodology, literature use) and provide clear feedback, whether positive or negative.
Plagiarism/Publication Red Flags: Reviewers must alert the editor if they suspect plagiarism or prior publication.

DECLARATIONS (TO BE INCLUDED BEFORE REFERENCES)
Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts related to the research, authorship, or publication.
Funding: Authors must declare any financial support received for the study.
Ethics Approval: Authors must state whether ethics committee approval was required for the research.
