Abstract

In a highly competitive context, characterized by such phenomena as the globalization of markets, changing customer demands and increasing product-market competition, people and the way they are managed acquire greater importance because many other sources of competitive success are less powerful. But, to achieve competitive advantage through people involves changing the way of thinking about employment relationships. It needs successfully working with people and seeing human resource as a source of competitive advantage rather than merely a cost. As the value of human resource has been accepted for a potential of competitive advantage resource, academicians began to understand the human resource practices of firms based on Resource Based View. In this context, first the importance of Resource Based View on gaining competitive advantage will be discussed and then the role of human resources as the most important asset of firms will be analyzed in a theoretical concept.
