Abstract

Porter tried to find out why some nations have a more competitive character than others, through his model that was improved in his book “Competitive Advantage of Nations”, published in 1990. Diamond model insists on the exploration of the four basic elements of a sector, defining the national competition power, related with each other. These are, national factor rigging, demand conditions, related and supported sectors and strategies of properties. Government, as a basic variable is mostly under concern additional to the four main variables of the diamond model. Furthermore, according to Porter, the competitive advantage is performed by the properties, not the country itself. The basic assumption that the diamond model was settled on is that “The competition occured among international trade may be global, but the source of competitive advantage is local and affected by the domestic conditions.” Through this assumption Porter tried to answer the question to find out the local conditions provide a national sector to be advantageous among international markets. Porter claims that it is not necessary for an industry to be advantageous in every respect, but it would be sufficient to be advantageous among different diagnostics.

ULUSLARARASI REKABETÇİLİK ANALİZİNDE MICHAEL E. PORTER’IN ELMAS MODELİ YAKLAŞIMI: TÜRKİYE’DEKİ BAZI ENDÜSTRİLERDEKİ UYGULANABİLİRLİĞİNİN VE SONUÇLARININ ARAŞTIRILMASI

Abstract

Porter, 1990 yılında yayınladığı “Ulusların Rekabet Avantajı” isimli kitabında geliştirdiği modeli ile, bazı ulusların “neden” diğerlerine göre belirli sektörlerde daha rekabetçi olduğu sorusuna yanıt vermeye çalışmıştır. Elmas modeli, bir sektördeki ulusal rekabet gücünü belirleyen dört temel unsurun birbiri ile ilişkili olarak incelenmesini gerektirmektedir. Bunlar, ulusal faktör donanımı, talep koşulları, ilişkili ve destekleyici sektörler ve işletme stratejileridir. Devlet, yani kamu yönetimi, temel değişkeni de elmas modeli’nde dört ana değişkene ilave olarak çoğu zaman göz önüne alınmaktadır. Üstelik Porter’a göre rekabet avantajlarını ülkeler değil ülke içinde faaliyet gösteren işletmeler yaratmaktadır. Elmas modelinin üzerine kurulduğu temel varsayım, “uluslararası ticarette rekabet küresel olabilir, ancak rekabet avantajının kaynağı lokaldir (ulusal koşullardan kaynaklanmaktadır)” biçiminde ifade edilebilir. Bu varsayım çerçevesinde Porter, “bir ulusal sektörün uluslararası pazarlarda avantajlı konuma gelmesini sağlayan lokal koşullar nelerdir” sorusuna yanıt aramaya çalışmaktadır. Porter, bir endüstri için her bakımdan avantajlı olmanın gerekli olmadığını, ancak çeşitli belirleyicilerde üstün olmanın yeterli olabileceğini öne sürmektedir.
