Abstract
This study examines the developments in the efficiency of cement industry firms listed
on Istanbul Stock Exchange for period 2001-2007. Efficiency scores are evaluated by using
Data Envelopment Analysis. Malmquist Total Factor Productivity index is used to measure
changes in efficiency over time. The result of the study show that out of the 16 firms analysed,
only 3 of them are found to be efficient in all periods. On the basis of annual average
efficiency scores, the most efficient year of the cement sector in the whole period is 2005.
Total productivity index scores show that the cement sector experienced an average annual
productivity increase of 1,9 per cent. This productivty increase is the result of technological
improvement.
VZA MALMQUİST TOPLAM FAKTÖR VERİMLİLİK ÖLÇÜSÜ: İMKB’YE KOTELİ ÇİMENTO ŞİRKETLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR ARAŞTIRMA
Abstract
Bu çalışma ile 2001-2007 döneminde İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsası (İMKB)’nda işlem gören çimento sektöründeki firmaların etkinliklerindeki gelişim incelenmektedir. Etkinlik değerleri Veri Zarflama Analizi (VZA) yöntemi kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. Etkinlik değerlerinin dönem içindeki değişimi Malmquist Toplam Faktör Verimlilik (TFV) endeksi kullanılarak ölçülmüştür. Analiz sonucunda, çalışmaya dahil edilen 16 firmadan 3 firmanın tüm dönemlerde etkin olarak faaliyet gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Dönemlerin ortalama etkinlik değerlerini incelediğimizde çimento sektörü için 2005 yılı diğer yıllara göre daha etkin geçmiştir. Toplam faktör verimlilik endeksine göre çimento sektörü 2001-2007 döneminde yıllık ortalama %1,9 verimlilik artışı göstermiştir. Sektördeki bu verimlilik artışı teknolojik ilerlemeden kaynaklanmıştır.
