Determination of Droplet Size Spectrum of Sprayer Nozzle Used Herbicide Application

Abstract

Efficacy of herbicide application and environmental problems, generated from herbicide application, depend highly on plant protection equipment and sprayer nozzles. Droplet size spectrum of 20 nozzles (5 of them are flat fun nozzles and the others are hollow cone nozzles), which are registered and used for herbicide applications, are determined in laboratory conditions Dv(10), Dv(50), Dv(90), Span and V100 values of sprayer nozzles were calculated with Malvern Spraytec, an analyzer of droplet size spectrum. Dv(10), Dv(50), Dv(90), Span and V100 values for hollow cone nozzles were found respectively as following; 56.34-84.88 µm, 115.1-160.7 µm, 198.2348.2 µm, 0.977-1.668 and 17.36-39.37 µm. Furthermore, for flat fun nozzles, Dv(10), Dv(50), Dv(90), Span and V100 values were determined respectively as following 56.34-84.88 µm, 115.1-160.7 µm, 198.2-348.2 µm, 0.977-1.668 and 17.36-39.37 µm. During herbicide application, selection of flat fun nozzles instead of hollow cone nozzle can help to reduce the volume of highly driftable spray droplet (<100 µm)
