The Effects of Different Cadmium Levels on Growth, Cd, Fe, Zn Concentrations, and Antioxidative Enzyme Activities in Cotton Plant (Gossipium Hirsutum L)

Abstract

Cotton plants (Gossipium hirsutum L.) grown in nutrient solution and plants was exposure to different cadmium treatments (0, 2, 10, 30 µmol/L) for 5 days under controlled conditions. The effect of Cd on dry matter, Cd, Zn and Fe concentrations, chlorophyll content, catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) enzyme activitities of cotton seedlings were investigated. İncreasing Cd treatments led to significant decline in drymatter and plant height . Increasing cadmium treatments led to a significant increase in Cd and decrease in Fe concentrations of plants,, while the concentration of Zn did not significantly affected by Cd treatments. Kl a, b, and Kl a+b content of leaves decreased with increasing Cd treatments. CAT activity increased with increasing Cd treatments while APX activity increased at 2 µmol/L Cd and decreased at10, 30 µmol/LCd treatments
