Our natural resources are decreasing day by day as the world population increases and consumption habits change. Environmental education is a process that starts from the family before the school and lasts for life. At school, students should be aware that the resources in the world are limited, and they must acquire knowledge that a certain waste will remain in nature for years without deterioration and harm the environment. This study has the aim to determine the knowledge and awareness of secondary school students in 2017 academic year. 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th class students from one government and one private school, in total two schools, which affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the province center of Çanakkale have participated in the study group of the research. The majority of students provide recycling information from their school. The most effective source of information for the students who participated in the survey is the teacher at the rate of 65%. While it seems to be positive that some students’ descriptions are made with the examples, it doesn’t escape the attention (it is clear in the research) that there are students who regards recycling as only garbage (19.7 %). Nearly 70 % of the students are using recycling boxes. It appears that the students who participated in the study have environmental awareness in generally.
