Abstract
The root of the word melancholy is Latin in etymological dictionaries and entered the French language as melancholia in the 13th century. Despite being expressed by the word love in Turkish, the root of the word belongs to sevda meaning black, in Arabic. This term was used as malihulya meaning being enamored with someone, at the time of Ottoman. Nowadays, the term melancholy is commonly used to mean a mood disorder because one's living a lethargic lifestyle to the point of subnormally lacking enthusiasm due to depression.
