Cross-Cultural Examination of Preschool Children's Perceptions of the Concept of Well-Being: A Comparison between Turkey and Poland

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine preschool children’s perceptions of the concept of well-being and to explore the cross-cultural similarities and differences in these perceptions.

Method and Materials: In the study, which was planned in case study design, 100 Turkish and 100 Polish children aged 5-6 years from Türkiye and Poland participated. Turkish children consisted of 40 girls and 60 boys, and Polish children consisted of 42 girls and 58 boys. Activities for the concept of well-being were carried out with the children in the sample group for 10 weeks in the 2023-2024 academic year. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form via Google Forms. The collected data were analysed by content analysis.

Results: Upon examining the research findings, it was concluded that preschool children in Türkiye and Poland have similar levels of well-being awareness, and that children engage in similar activities to enhance their well-being.

Okul Öncesi Dönem Çocuklarının İyi Oluş Kavramına Yönelik Görüşlerinin Kültürlerarası İncelenmesi: Türkiye-Polonya Karşılaştırması

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışma, okul öncesi dönem çocuklarının iyi oluş kavramına yönelik görüşlerinin incelenmesini ve kültürlerarası benzerlik-farklılıklarını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır.

Yöntem ve Araçlar: Durum çalışması deseninde planlanan çalışmaya Türkiye ve Polonya’dan 5-6 yaş grubu 100 Türk ve 100 Polonyalı çocuk katılmıştır. Türk çocuklar 40 kız, 60 erkek, Polonyalı çocuklar ise 42 kız ve 58 erkekten oluşmaktadır. Örneklem grubundaki çocuklarla 2023-2024 eğitim-öğretim döneminde Türk ve Polonya okul öncesi eğitim programları dikkate alınarak hazırlanan ve 10 hafta boyunca devam eden iyi oluş kavramına yönelik etkinlikler yapılmıştır. Araştırmada veriler, Google Forms üzerinden yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Toplanan veriler içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir.

Sonuçlar: raştırma bulgularının incelenmesinin sonucunda Türkiye ve Polonya da öğrenim gören okul öncesi dönem çocuklarının iyi oluş farkındalık düzeylerinin birbirine yakın olduğu, çocukların iyi oluş düzeylerini arttırmak için benzer etkinliklere başvurdukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
