Kimliği Kendi Değerlerimizle Anlamak ve Anlamlandırmak

Abstract

Bu makalede kimlik ve oluşum süreci incelenmiştir. Toplumların tarihî, geleneksel ve dinî özellikleri “sosyal kimlikleri” oluşturur. Kimlik, bireyin kendisini tanımlamasının ve toplumdaki konumunun bir ifadesidir. Kimlik, psikolojik ve sosyolojik karmaşıklıkların iç içe geçmesiyle oluşur. Sosyal kimliklerin oluşum sürecinde din, ahlak ve gelenek gibi değerler önemli bir rol oynar. Dolayısı ile değerler ve kimlik ilişkisi önemli bir konudur. Değerler, toplumun iç dinamikleri ile elde edilmiş “öz kaynaklar”dır ki bu bilgi birikimleri, çeşitli medeniyet ve yaşam tarzları ile bize işlenmeye hazır materyaller sunar. Bilgi ile değer arasındaki ilişki özel bir çalışma alanını ortaya koyar. Kimliklerin oluşum süreci ve kalkış noktaları kişiyi var eden temel özellikleri ve onlara ait değerleri içerir. Mead’a göre benlik, sosyal etkileşim sonucu oluşur. Sosyal benliğin gelişmesinde toplumdaki etkileşim önemlidir, ancak benliği şekillendiren değer ve terbiye biçimi sosyal yapının niteliğini belirler ve toplumları bir arada tutar. Hilmi Ziya Ülken’e göre ise kimlik medeniyet anlayışı üzerine oturur. Medeniyet, bir değerler sistemi ve her devirde bir değerler düzenidir. İnsanı üstün kılan değerler, medeniyetin temelini oluşturur. Yazı, kimliğin karmaşıklığını ve sosyal kimliklerin oluşum sürecini, değerlerin bu süreçteki etkisini anlatarak, bireyin ve toplumun kimliğini şekillendiren faktörlere odaklanmayı sağlar

Understanding and Making Sense of Identity with Our Own Values

Abstract

This article examines identity and its formation process. Historical, traditional and religious characteristics of societies form “social identities”. Identity is an expression of an individual’s self-identification and position in society. The intertwining of psychological and sociological complexities forms identity. Values such as religion, morality, and tradition play an important role in the formation of social identities. Therefore, the relationship between values and identity is an important matter. Values are the “core elements” obtained through the internal dynamics of the society, its accumulations provide us with materials ready to be processed through various civilizations and lifestyles. According to Mead, the self is formed as a result of social interaction. Interaction in society is important in the development of the social self, but the values and upbringing that shape the self-determine the nature of the social structure and keep societies together. According to Hilmi Ziya Ülken, identity is based on the understanding of civilization. Civilization is a system of values and an order of values in every era. Values that make human beings superior constitute the basis of civilization. By explaining the complexity of identity, the process of formation of social identities and the impact of values on this process, the article focuses on the factors that shape the identity of the individual and society.
