Mixed gliomas

Abstract

Mixed gliomas are composed of two types of neoplastic glia, but the diagnostic criteria are difficult to define. A diagnosis of mixed glioma should be reserved for neoplasms with separate regions of morphologically distinct cells. Many astrocytomas contain a few cells reminiscent of those in oligodenderoglioma and vice-versa, but such an admixture does not qualify for the term of mixed glioma. Although they are rare tumors in daily practice of diagnostic neuropathology, theoretic combinations of oligoastrocytoma, ependymoastrocytoma, and oligoependymoma, the oligoastrocytoma clearly predominates
