Masal çocuklar kadar yetişkinler için de üretilen bir türdür. Geleneksel masallar sadece sözlü
kültürde anlatılarak yaşatılmamaktadır. Yazılı kültürde hem yeniden anlatımlarla hem de
motif, karakter, tema, olay örgüsü gibi bileşenleriyle özgün kurgu eserlerin oluşturulmasında
kaynaklık ederek de canlılığını korumaktadır. Ama bazen masal türünün özel anlatı yapısına,
kalıplarına sahip bazı tipleri de özgün kurgu eserlerin üretiminde kullanılmaktadır. İşte bu
yazıda sözlü kültürdeki masallarda görülen tekerleme, yalanlama, formül (birikimli ya da
zincir) anlatım yapılarından Aziz Nesin ve Neil Gaiman’ın nasıl yararlandıkları konu
edilmektedir. Yazıyla geleneksel anlatıların sadece içerik ve motif açısından değil, anlatım
teknikleri açısından da kurgu yazarlığına kaynaklık ettiğinin gösterilmesi amaçlanmaktadır.
Ayrıca masal tekniklerinin sadece çocuk edebiyatında değil yetişkinler için kaleme alınmış
eserlerde ve gülmece, fantastik, bilim kurgu gibi çok farklı edebi türlerde de
kullanılabileceğinin de örneklenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Aziz Nesin genellikle gerçekçi ortam
ve dekor içine eserlerini oturtan bir güldürü yazarıdır. Yazar, masal dinleyerek büyümüştür.
Onun bazı özgün eserleri masal türündedir. Hedef okur kitlesi de çoğunlukla yetişkinlerdir.
Neil Gaiman fantastik, bilim kurgu, çocuk edebiyatı gibi çoklu alanda eserler üretmektedir.
Masalları oldukça seven yazarın geleneksel masalları yeniden anlattığı ve yeniden yorumladığı
bazı eserleri de vardır. Makalede öncelikle söz konusu anlatım biçimleri ele alınmakta, sonra
çağdaş edebiyatta masallardan yararlanılmasının nedenleri saptanmakta, ardından Nesin ve
Gaiman’ın folklor ve masalla olan ilişkisine değinilmekte, son olarak da bu anlatım
biçimlerinin kullanıldığı Gaiman ve Nesin’e ait seçilmiş eserler incelenmektedir. Makalede
değerlendirilen eserler şunlardır: Nesin’den “Bizim Eve Amerikalı Misafir Gelecek” ve
“Konserve Kutusu” öyküleri ile “Bay Öküz ve Bay Ahmet” adlı masal; Gaiman’dan “Çılgın
Saç”, “Babam Süt Peşinde”, “The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Golgfish” adlı kitaplar.
Folktales are a genre produced for adults as well as children. Folktales are not only told in
oral culture. In written culture, folktale maintains its vitality both through retellings and as a
source for creation of authentic fictional works with its components such as motifs,
characters, themes and plots. But sometimes some types of folktales with special narrative
structures and patterns are used in the production of authentic fictional works. In this article
are discussed that how Aziz Nesin and Neil Gaiman drawn on rhyme, tall tale and formula
(cumulative or chain) narrative structures of folktale. The article aims to show that
traditional narratives are a source of fiction writing not only in terms of content and motif,
but also in terms of narrative techniques. It is also aimed to illustrate that fairy tale
techniques can be used not only in children's literature, but also in works written for adults
and in many different literary genres such as comedy, fantasy and science fiction. Aziz Nesin
is a comedy writer who generally used realistic settings in his works. The author grew up
listening to folktales. Some of authentic works are written in the folktale genre. His target
readers are mostly adults. Neil Gaiman produces works in multiple genre such as fantasy,
science fiction and children's literature. The author, who loves fairy tales, also has some
works in which he retells and reinterprets folktales. In the article, firstly, the narrative
structures mentioned above are discussed, then, the reasons for using fairy tales in
contemporary literature are determined; later, Nesin and Gaiman's relationship with folklore
and fairy tales is mentioned; finally, selected works of Gaiman and Nesin in which these
patterns of narrative were used are examined. The works evaluated in the article are: The
stories “An American Guest Will Come to Our House” and “The Canning Can”, and the tale
called “Mr. Ox and Mr. Ahmet” by Nesin; the books titled “Crazy Hair”, Fortunately The
Milk”, and “The Day I Swapped My Father for Two Golgfish” by Gaiman.

The journal is published twice a year in January and July. The language of DOI-registered articles in TFA, which is an open access journal with double-blind referee system, is Turkish and English. The articles with DOI tags in the open access journal, edited according to APA 7 system, are published free of charge in the double-blind referee system. The management of the Association/Journal is not responsible for the articles in any way; all responsibilities belong to the authors. The author(s) of the articles requiring an Ethics Committee decision must include the required report in the manuscript submission. In the submission of the article, the authors submit the Publication Declaration Form stating that they assume all the responsibilities of the work, that the work has not been published elsewhere, and that it has not been sent to other publication organs for publication. As an open access journal, authors own the copyrights of their products. Authors are not paid any fee.
