Publication rates of oral presentations accepted at advances in physiotherapy symposiums

Abstract

Purpose: Publication is the required end point of scientific research. The publication rate following congress presentation is an indicator of the content and quality of the scientific activity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the eventual publication rates of accepted oral presentations at the Advances in Physiotherapy Symposiums.Methods: The oral presentations of 4 symposiums organized in 2002-2008 published in the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Journal were investigated briefly. The study was done by searching the title of the manuscript and the name of the authors in English and Turkish languages via Pubmed and Google Academic data bases. In addition, time periods between oral presentations and the publishing dates of these presentations and their indexed journals were recorded.Results: A total of 181 oral presentations were evaluated and 20.44% (n=37) of them were published in international and national peer-reviewed journals. The published articles were found in the Science Citation Index (SCI) (n=10), SCI-Expanded (n=13), international (n=11) and national (n=3) peer-reviewed journals. The mean time to publication of oral presentations was found 20.94±16.66 months.Discussion: When literature was searched, the publication rates of oral presentations varied from 21.6% to 67%, and the publication time varied from 17.6 to 23.6 months. According to these results, we think that the researchers should be encouraged to publish their oral papers presented at the Advances in Physiotherapy Symposiums. The published oral presentations will help to be recognized the Turkish physical therapists at national and international platforms

Fizyoterapide gelişmeler sempozyumlarında kabul edilen sözel bildirimlerin yayımlanma oranı

Abstract

Amaç: Yayın bilimsel araştırmalarda istenilen son noktadır. Kongrede sunum sonrası yayın oranı, bilimsel faaliyetin kapsamının ve kalitesinin bir göstergesidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı; Fizyoterapide Gelişmeler Sempozyumu’nda kabul edilen sözel bildirilerin yayımlanma oranını, süresini ve yayımlandıkları dergileri incelemekti. Yöntemler: 2002–2008 yıllarında düzenlenen 4 sempozyumun sözel bildirileri Fizyoterapi ve Rehabilitasyon Dergisi’nde tek tek incelenmiştir. Sözel bildirilerin başlığı ve yazarlar dikkate alınarak Pubmed ve Google Akademik veri tabanlarında İngilizce ve Türkçe dillerinde araştırılmıştır. Ayrıca, sözel bildiriler ile bu bildirilerin yayımlanma tarihi arasındaki süre ve yayımlanan çalışmaların dergi indeksleri kaydedilmiştir. Sonuçlar: Sözel sunulan toplam 181 bildiri değerlendirilmiş ve bu bildirilerin % 20.44’ü (n=37) uluslararası ve ulusal hakemli dergilerde yayımlanmıştır. Yayımlanan çalışmalar Science Citation Index (SCI) (n=10), SCI-Expanded (n=13), uluslararası hakemli (n=11) ve ulusal (n=3) hakemli dergilerde basılmıştır. Sözel bildirilerin yayınlanma süresi ortalama 20.94±16.66 ay bulunmuştur. Tartışma: Literatür incelendiğinde, sözel bildirilerin yayımlanma oranı % 21.6 ile % 67 ve yayımlanma süresi 17.6 ay ile 23.6 ay arasında değişmektedir. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda, Fizyoterapide Gelişmeler Sempozyumu’nda sunulan bildirilerin yayın haline getirilmesi için araştırmacıların teşvik edilmesi gerektiğini düşünmekteyiz. Yayımlanan bildiriler ulusal ve uluslararası platformda Türk fizyoterapistlerin tanınmasına katkı sağlayacaktır
