INTERPRETATION OF NAAT IN THE EARLY EPICS OF DEHLAVI AND NAVOI’S “KHAMSA”

Abstract

In the tradition of Classical Oriental literature, poetic works begin with a systematic introductory order consisting of tawhid, munajat, and naat. In studies on Uzbek literature, these sections have generally been evaluated as stereotyped introductory parts of masnavis. For this reason, the philosophical depth and aesthetic values contained in these texts have not been sufficiently analyzed. This article argues that the sections of hamd and naat are organic parts of the epics in masnavi form. It also reveals that these sections play a decisive role in reflecting the poet’s ontological stance, religious-mystical worldview, and aesthetic imagination. Within the scope of the study, the naat texts in Matla’ul-Anwar by Amir Khusrau Dehlavi and Hayratü’l- Abrar by Alisher Navoi, two monumental figures of Turkic-Islamic literature, are examined through a comparative method. Navoi inherited the literary heritage of his predecessors in the genre of naat. While expressing Islamic principles, he constructed a unique narrative by transforming traditional forms. In this context, it is possible to evaluate the hamd and naat sections in the analyzed works not merely as introductory texts but as independent genres in terms of content and structure. Particularly, the “Mi‘rājnāmah” sections draw attention with their unique narrative techniques where epic and lyrical elements are intertwined. As a result of the textual analysis, it has been determined that naats establish an ideological ground within the structure of the epic. In these sections, which bear the characteristic features of the qasida form, descriptions and characterizations are presented with a lyrical, excited, and enthusiastic rhetoric. Both poets reflected their devotion to the religion of Islam with an artistic language in the naat sections. They portrayed Prophet Muhammad as the pinnacle of human history, a person endowed with miracles and dignity. The poets’ imagination and thoughts on divine truth gained an aesthetic form in these sections. The main stylistic difference between the two poets is clear. Dehlavi prefers more abstract and general expressions in his portrayal of the Prophet. Navoi, on the other hand, depicts the shama’il-i sharif (the Prophet’s physical and moral qualities) within the framework of historical chronology and concrete events using a gradual description method.

HÜSREV-İ DEHLEVÎ VE NEVÂYÎ’NİN HAMSELERİNDE YER ALAN NAATLARIN MUKAYESELİ ANALİZİ

Abstract

Klasik Doğu edebiyatı geleneğinde manzum eserler tevhîd, münacat ve naat gibi sistematik bir mukaddime düzeniyle başlar. Özbek edebiyatı üzerine yapılan çalışmalarda bu bölümler genellikle mesnevilerin kalıplaşmış giriş kısımları olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bu nedenle söz konusu metinlerin ihtiva ettiği felsefi derinlik ve estetik değerler yeterince analiz edilmemiştir. Bu makale, hamd ve naatların mesnevi formundaki destanların organik bir parçası olduğunu savunmaktadır. Ayrıca bu bölümlerin şairin ontolojik duruşunu, dini-tasavvufi dünya görüşünü ve estetik tahayyülünü yansıtma noktasında belirleyici bir rol oynadığını ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında Türk-İslam edebiyatının iki dev ismi Emir Hüsrev-i Dehlevî’nin Matla’ul-Envâr ve Ali Şir Nevâyî’nin Hayretü’l-Ebrâr adlı eserlerinde yer alan naat metinleri mukayeseli bir yöntemle tetkik edilmiştir. Nevâyî, naat türünde kendisinden önceki seleflerinin edebi mirasını tevarüs etmiştir. İslami akideleri ifade ederken de geleneksel formları dönüştürerek özgün bir anlatı inşa etmiştir. Bu bağlamda incelenen eserlerdeki hamd ve naat bölümlerini sadece birer giriş metni değil, muhteva ve yapı bakımından müstakil birer tür olarak değerlendirmek mümkündür. Özellikle “Miraçname” bölümleri, epik ve lirik unsurların iç içe geçtiği kendine has anlatım teknikleriyle dikkat çekmektedir. Metin tahlilleri sonucunda naatların destan yapısı içerisinde ideolojik bir zemin oluşturduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kaside formunun karakteristik özelliklerini barındıran bu bölümlerde tasvir ve nitelendirmeler lirik, heyecanlı ve coşkulu bir retorikle sunulmuştur. Her iki şair de naat bölümlerinde İslam dinine olan bağlılıklarını sanatkârane bir dille yansıtmıştır. Hazreti Muhammed’i insanlık tarihinin zirvesi, mucizelerle mücehhez ve keramet sahibi bir şahsiyet olarak tasvir etmişlerdir. Şairlerin hayal dünyası ve ilahi hakikate dair düşünceleri bu bölümlerde estetik bir form kazanmıştır. İki şair arasındaki temel üslup farkı ise belirgindir. Dehlevî peygamber tasvirinde daha soyut ve genel ifadeleri tercih etmektedir. Nevâyî ise şemail-i şerifi tarihî kronoloji ve somut olaylar örgüsü içerisinde, tedrici bir betimleme yöntemiyle işlemektedir.
