The Attitude of Medical School Students About Artificial İntelligence Applications in Medicine

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to investigate the attitude of students in school of medicine about artificial intelligence (AI) application and effect on medicine. This is a cross sectional study which is performed with first, second and third class students belonging school of medicine in the 2018-2019 education period. The minimum sample size is calculated as 262 with the parameters of %50 prevelance of adequate AI, %95 confidence interval and %5 acceptable margin of error. It has been prepeared a questionniare with the guidence of literature. The data is analysed with SPSS 15.0 and presented as descriptive statistics. The ages ranged between 17-26 and the mean is 19.89±1.3. The %94.4 (n:386) of students have internet connection in their place of residences, the %48.2 (n:197) have habit of reading book/newspaper. The mean of hours spent on internet is 3.56±1.74. The %59.4 (n:383) manifest that they dont concern about integration of robots to daily life. The %93.6 have heard about AI. The %61.6 (n:252) dont fear about AI and the %41.6 (n:170) have curiosity about AI. The %59.2 (n:242) manifest that do not have enough information about AI applications in medicine and %79.2 (n:324) want to use AI applications in their occupation processes. The less than half have information about AI and the %87 have request detailed information about AI. It is concluded that including this subject in the education curriculum of the medical faculty students as health service providers in future is important and it is needed more comprehensive studies in this field.

Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Tıpta Yapay Zeka ile İlgili Düşünceleri

Öz

Çalışmada, Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi öğrencilerinin tıpta yapay zeka kullanımı ile ilgili düşüncelerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. Çalışma Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi birinci, ikinci ve üçüncü sınıf öğrencilerinde 2018 - 2019 eğitim öğretim döneminde gerçekleştirilen kesitsel tipte bir çalışmadır. Örneklem hacmi için yapay zeka konusunda yeterli bilgiye sahip olma sıklığı %50 kabul edilerek, %5 hata payı ve %95 güven aralığında ulaşılması gereken minimum birey sayısı 262 kişi olarak hesaplanmıştır. Çalışmada veri toplamak amacıyla literatürden de faydalanılarak bir anket form hazırlanmıştır. Veriler SPPS 15.0 istatistik paket programında tanımlayıcı istatistikler kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan 409 öğrencinin yaşları 17-26 arasında değişmekte olup, ortalama±SS 19.89±1.3 idi. Çalışma grubundakilerin %94.4’ü(n:386) kaldığı yerde internet erişimi olduğunu, %48.2’si (n:197) düzenli gazete/kitap okuma alışkanlığı olduğunu, belirtirken, bir günde internet başında geçirdiği süre ortalama±SD 3.56±1.74 saat idi. Öğrencilerin %59.4’ü (n:243) robotların hayatımıza girmesinin onları endişelendirmediğini, %93.6’sı(n:383) yapay zekayı duyduğunu, %61.6’sı(n:252) yapay zekadan endişe duymadığını ve %41.6’sı(n:170) merak uyandırdığını bildirdi. Öğrencilerin %59.2’si (n:242) tıpta yapay zeka uygulamaları hakkında bilgi sahibi olmadığını, %79.2’si (n:324) ise ileride hekimlik hayatında yapay zekayı kullanmayı istediğini beyan etti. Öğrencilerin yarısından azı bilgi sahibi olduğunu ifade ederken, %87’si eğitim verilmesini istediğini bildirdi. Yapay zekanın tıpta kullanımı ile ilgili, gelecekte sağlık hizmeti sunucusu olacak olan tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin eğitim müfredatında bu konunun yer almasının önemli olduğu ve bu alanda daha kapsamlı çalışmalar yapılmasının gerekliliği sonucuna varıldı.
