The Attitude of Medical School Students About Artificial İntelligence Applications in Medicine

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to investigate the attitude of students in school of medicine about artificial intelligence (AI) application and effect on medicine. This is a cross sectional study which is performed with first, second and third class students belonging school of medicine in the 2018-2019 education period. The minimum sample size is calculated as 262 with the parameters of %50 prevelance of adequate AI, %95 confidence interval and %5 acceptable margin of error. It has been prepeared a questionniare with the guidence of literature. The data is analysed with SPSS 15.0 and presented as descriptive statistics. The ages ranged between 17-26 and the mean is 19.89±1.3. The %94.4 (n:386) of students have internet connection in their place of residences, the %48.2 (n:197) have habit of reading book/newspaper. The mean of hours spent on internet is 3.56±1.74. The %59.4 (n:383) manifest that they dont concern about integration of robots to daily life. The %93.6 have heard about AI. The %61.6 (n:252) dont fear about AI and the %41.6 (n:170) have curiosity about AI. The %59.2 (n:242) manifest that do not have enough information about AI applications in medicine and %79.2 (n:324) want to use AI applications in their occupation processes. The less than half have information about AI and the %87 have request detailed information about AI. It is concluded that including this subject in the education curriculum of the medical faculty students as health service providers in future is important and it is needed more comprehensive studies in this field.
