Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the acute effects of different warm-up protocols consisting of static, dynamic, and combined stretching exercises on flexibility, functional movement analysis, dynamic balance, vertical jump, agility, and YMCA step test values of athletes, in order to determine which warm-up is more suitable for athletes. The population of the study consisted of athletes residing in Sakarya province, aged between 15-22, participating in national or international competitions in their respective sports, training 4-5 days a week, with an average sports experience of at least 5 years. A total of 30 volunteer athletes participated in the research, which was designed using the experimental screening method. "Athlete Information Form", "PARQ Health Survey", "Tanita body analysis device", "Heart rate monitor", "Sit and reach table", "FMS measurement kit", "Y Balance measurement kit", "My Jump Pro application" and "T Agility test" were used as data collection tools. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 package program and Shapiro-Wilks test, Repeated Measures ANOVA, Friedman test, Bonferroni and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. As a result, it was found that changes in warm-up protocols created significant differences in flexibility, functional movement analysis, Y balance (right anterior), vertical jump, T agility, and YMCA step test values (p<0.05). Based on these findings, static stretching may be preferred for sports requiring flexibility; dynamic stretching for agility-focused and injury-prone sports; and a combination of static and dynamic stretching for sports where both aerobic and anaerobic performance are important.
