Comparison of Physical Performances of Turkish and Italian Tennis Players

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the physical test results of Turkish and Italian tennis players. Performance tennis players participating in international tournaments were included in the study. A total of 28 tennis players participated in the study, comprising Turkish players (female: n = 8; age: 15,66 ± 0,53; height: 165 ± 6.40 cm; weight: 60 ± 5.33 kg; body mass index (BMI): 22.0 – male: n = 6; age: 15,33 ± 0,51 height: 176 ± 5.50 cm; weight: 70 ± 6.45 kg; BMI: 22.6) and Italian players (female: n = 8; age: 15,68 ± 0,33; height: 169 ± 4.50 cm; weight: 62 ± 5.43 kg; BMI: 21.7 – male: n = 6; age: 15,72 ± 0,44; height: 181 ± 8.73 cm; weight: 71 ± 4.33 kg; BMI: 21.7). Non-equivalent control group design was adopted in this study. On the first day of the study, participants performed a series of tests, including 10 m sprint, 6x8 m sprint, squat jump (SJ), countermovement jump (CMJ), and medicine ball throw. The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 (YYIRT-1) was administered on the second day. Between-group comparisons were analyzed with an independent samples t-test. Italian tennis players demonstrated a significant difference compared to Turkish tennis players in the 10 m sprint, medicine ball throw, and YYIRT-1 results when all data were assessed without gender differentiation (p<0.05). Significant differences were observed between Italian and Turkish female tennis players in the 10 m sprint, 6x8 m sprint, medicine ball throw, and YYIRT-1 test results (p<0.05). Among Italian and Turkish male tennis players, significant differences were observed in the 10 m sprint and medicine ball throw (p<0.05), while no significant differences were found in the 6x8 m sprint test and YYIRT-1 test results between the groups (p>0.05). No significant difference was found between Turkish and Italian female and male tennis players in the jump tests (p>0.05). In conclusion, Italian female tennis players were found to be in better physical condition than Turkish female players in physical tests.

Türk ve İtalyan Tenis Oyuncuların Fiziksel Performanslarının Karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Türk ve İtalyan tenisçilerin fiziksel test sonuçlarını karşılaştırmak olmuştur. Araştırmada uluslararası turnuvalara katılan performans tenis oyuncuları yer almıştır. Türk (kadın= 8, yaş: 15,66 ± 0,53; boy: 165 ± 6,40 cm; kilo, 60 ± 5,33 kg; beden kütle indeksi (BKİ): 22; erkek=6; yaş: 15,33 ± 0,51 boy: 176 ± 5,50 cm; kilo: 70 ± 6,45 kg; BKİ: 22,6) İtalyan (kadın=8, yaş: 15,68 ± 0,33; boy: 169 ± 4,50 cm; kilo: 62 ± 5,43 kg; BKİ: 21,7; erkek=6, yaş: 15,72 ± 0,44; boy: 181 ± 8,73 cm; kilo: 71 ± 4,33 kg; BKİ: 21,7) toplam 28 tenis oyuncusu Türk ve İtalyan tenis oyuncuları katılmıştır. Bu araştırmada Nicel araştırma modellerinden eşitlenmemiş kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanıldı. Araştırmada birinci günde 10 m sprint, 6x8 m sprint, squat jump (SJ), Aktif Sıçrama Testi (AST), sağlık topu atışı, ikinci günde ise Yo-Yo Aralıklı Toparlanma Testi Seviye 1 (Yo-Yo AT1) uygulandı. Gruplar arası karşılaştırma bağımsız örneklem t-test ile analiz edildi. Bulgularda, cinsiyet ayrımı yapmadan tüm veriler değerlendirildiğinde, İtalyan ve Türk tenisçiler arasında 10 m sprint, sağlık topu atışı ve Yo-Yo AT1 sonuçlarında İtalyan oyuncular lehine anlamlı bir fark görülmüştür (p<0,05). İtalyan ve Türk kadın oyuncuları arasında 10 m sprint, 6x8 m sprint, sağlık topu atışı ve Yo-Yo AT1 test sonuçlarında anlamlı bir fark olduğu görüldü (p<0,05). İtalyan ve Türk erkek oyuncularda ise 10 m sprint ve sağlık topu atışında anlamlı bir farklılık olduğu görülürken (p<0,05), 6x8 sprint testinde ve Yo-Yo AT1 test sonuçlarında gruplar arasında anlamlı bir fark görülmemiştir (p>0,05). Sıçrama test sonuçlarında hem Türk hem de İtalyan erkek ve kadınlar arasında herhangi anlamlı bir fark olmadığı tespit edildi (p>0,05). Sonuç olarak, İtalyan kadın oyuncuların fiziksel testlerde Türk kadın oyunculardan daha iyi bir fiziksel kondisyon durumuna sahip olduğu görülmüştür.
