A case with theophylline intoxication

Abstract

Theophylline is an agent used in the treatment of obstructive airway diseases It has a risk of intoxication with serum concentrations higher than 15 mu;g mL A seven year old female patient presented with complaints of vomiting and headache She had tachycardia and other physical examination findings were found to be normal We were informed that she ingested 10 tablets named Bronkolin reg; each containing 300 mg theophylline Her serum theophylline levels were found to be gt;40 micro;g ml normal range: 10 20 micro;g ml She was monitorized and received charcoal potassium supplementation and intravenous fluid Her serum theophylline declined to 3 1 micro;g ml and she was discharged With this case presentation we wanted to emphasize that the possibility of drug intoxication should be considered in presence of hyperglycemia hypopotassemia and tachycardia with accompanying symptoms including acute and unexplained vomiting and headache Turk Arch Ped 2013; 48: 55 6

Bir olgu nedeniyle teofilin zehirlenmesi

Abstract

Teofilin tıkayıcı havayolu hastalıklarının tedavisinde kullanılan bir ilaçtır Teofilin kan düzeyi 15 mu;g mL rsquo;nin üzerinde olduğunda zehirlenme için risk oluşturmaktadır Yedi yaşında kız hasta kusma ve baş ağrısı yakınmalarıyla getirildi Taşikardisi saptanan hastanın diğer sistem muayeneleri normaldi Hastanın yaklaşık altı saat önce teofilin içeren Bronkolin reg; 300 mg tablet adlı ilaçtan şeker niyetine 10 adet yediği öğrenildi Hastanın bakılan kan teofilin düzeyi gt;40 micro;g mL N: 10 20 micro;g mL olarak geldi Hasta monitörize edildi aktif kömür potasyum ve sıvı desteği verildi İzlemde kan teofilin düzeyi 3 1 micro;g mL değerine gerileyen hasta şifa ile taburcu edildi Bu olgu sunumuyla akut ve açıklanamayan kusma baş ağrısı gibi bulgular ile beraber hiperglisemi hipopotasemi ve taşikardi varlığında altta yatan bir ilaç zehirlenmesi olabileceği vurgulanmak istendi.
