Arthropathy Due to a Fluoroquinolon in a Newborn

Abstract

Fluoroquinolones which have a broad spectrum and powerful intracellular penetration are a group of antibiotics displaying a bactericidal effect preventing DNA replication For many years cartilage toxicity due to quinolones has experimentally been determined in many immature animals and although its usage in prepubertal patients has presented a contraindicaion successful results have been obtained in premature newborns with multiresistant Enterobacter cloace septicaemia and ventriculitis In this paper a case diagnosed as neonatal sepsis and treated with a fluoroqinolon in the Newborn Unit the Department of Pediatrics Cumhuriyet University is presented Key words: Fluoroqinolones Arthrophy

Bir Yenidoğanda Florokinolon Artropatisi

Öz

Florokinolonlar geniş spektrumlu ve hücre içi penetrasyonu kuvvetli olan DNA replikasyonunu önleyen bakterisid etkili bir antibiyotik grubudur Uzun yıllardır kinolonlara bağlı kıkırdak toksisitesi deneysel olarak immatür hayvanlarda ispatlanmış ve prepubertal hastalarda kullanım kontrendikasyonu yaratmış olmakla birlikte multirezistan Enterobacter cloace septisemili ve ventrikülitisli prematür yenidoğanlarda başarılı sonuçlar elde edilmiştir Bu makalede Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Pediatri Bölümü Neonatoloji Ünitesinde neonatal sepsis tanısı konan ve florokinolon ile tedavi edilen bir olgu sunulmuştur Anahtar kelimeler: Florokinolonlar Artropati
