Thrombocytopenic purpura after a combined vaccine against diphtheria tetanus pertussis and oral polio vaccine Case Report

Abstract

Thrombocytopenic purpura has been very rarely described in association with the diphtheria tetanus pertussis and oral polio vaccines Two infants with thrombocytopenic purpura that occurred after the first dose of diphtheria tetanus pertussis plus oral polio vaccines are reported Other possible causes of this condition were excluded The interval between the vaccination and the development of thrombocytopenia were one week for the first patient and two weeks for the other The platelet counts of the patients rose to normal levels between the fifth and seventh days without any treatment The complete reversibility of thrombocytopenia in our two cases and in cases described by others confirms the benign nature of this extremely rare complication Key words: Thrombocytopenia Vaccine Diphtheria Tetanus Pertussis DTP Oral Polio Vaccine OPV

Abstract

Difteri boğmaca tetanoz ve oral polio aşılarına bağlı trombositopeni vakası nadiren bildirilmiştir Difteri boğmaca tetanoz ve oral polio aşılarının ilk dozlarından sonra iki süt çocuğunda ortaya çıkan trombositopeni vakaları sunuldu ve klinik özelliklerine dikkat çekildi Birinci ve ikinci hastada aşılama ile trombositopenin ortaya çıkışı arasındaki kuluçka dönemi sırasıyla 7 ve 14 gündü Hastaneye müracaatlarından önce herhangi bir ilaç kullanma ve üst solunum yolu enfeksiyonu geçirme öyküsü yoktu Otoimmun bir hastalığa işaret edebilecek klinik ve laboratuar bulgusu tespit edilmedi Kemik iliği incelemeleri normaldi Her iki hastada da trombosit sayısı 5 7 gün içinde herhangi bir tedaviye gerek kalmaksızın normale döndü İki vakamızda da trombositopeninin tamamen normale dönmesi bu nadir komplikasyonun benign karakterli olduğunu gösteriyor Anahtar Kelimeler: Trombositopeni Aşı Difteri Boğmaca Tetanoz DBT Oral Polio Aşısı OPV
