Abstract

We have measured total lipid cholesterol triglycerides HDL C LDL C of 21 preterm 7 girls 14 boys and 55 term 27 girls 28 boys total 76 healthy new born to evaluate the effect of gestational age and sex on cholesterol and lipid metabolism nbsp; Total lipid and triglyceride levels were found higher in terms babies total cholesterol LDL C HDL C levels were found higher in preterms p lt;0 001;p lt;0 01; p lt;0 001; p lt;0 01; p lt;0 01 respectively We have found no sex difference when lipid cholesterol and lipoprotein levels of term and preterm babies according were compared As a result we have decided that cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism differ according to the gestational age and hypercholesterolism screening is not useful in this period Key words: Newborn Preterm Total Cholesterol Hdl C Ldl C Total Lipid Triglycerid

Abstract
