Transcanal endoscopic tympanoplasty in the treatment of chronic otitis media

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to report early postoperative complications and hearing results in patients with chronic otitis media undergoing endoscopic transcanal tympanoplasty. Patients and Methods: Twenty-four patients 6 males, 18 females; mean age 25.9 years; range 9 to 46 years who were operated with endoscopic transcanal tympanoplasty in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine, Çukurova University between December 2012 and January 2014 were included. Postoperative complication rates, graft success, and hearing outcomes mean air-bone gap were evaluated. Results: The mean preoperative air bone gap was found 25.1 dB and the mean postoperative air bone gap was found 20.3 dB. Postoperative duration of hospital was 24 hours. Reperforation was seen in one patient and medialization of the anterior quadrant of the graft was seen in one patient. The mean follow-up time was 7.3 months. Conclusion: Endoscopic transcanal tympanoplasty can be easily applied, cheap and safe method and can be given successful results in challenging cases.

Kronik otitis media tedavisinde transkanal endoskopik timpanoplasti

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada endoskopik transkanal timpanoplasti uygulanan kronik otitis medialı hastalarda ameliyat sonrası erken dönem komplikasyon ve işitme sonuçları bildirildi.Hastalar ve Yöntemler: Çukurova Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kulak Burun Boğaz Anabilim Dalı’nda Aralık 2012 - Ocak 2014 tarihleri arasında kronik otitis media tanısı ile endoskopik transkanal timpanoplasti uygulanan 24 hasta 6 erkek, 18 kadın; ort. yaş 25.9 yıl, dağılım 9-46 yıl çalışmaya dahil edildi. Ameliyat sonrası dönemdeki komplikasyon oranları, greft başarısı ve işitme sonuçları hava-kemik aralığı ortalaması değerlendirildi.Bulgular: Ameliyat öncesi hava kemik aralığı ortalaması 25.1 dB iken, ameliyat sonrası hava kemik aralığı ortalaması 20.3 dB olarak bulundu. Ameliyat sonrası hastanede kalış süresi 24 saat idi. Hastaların birinde reperforasyon, birinde de anteriyor kadranda medializasyon saptandı. Ortalama takip süresi 7.3 ay idi.Sonuç: Endoskopik transkanal timpanoplasti kolay uygulanabilen ve zor olgularda başarılı sonuçlar verebilen ucuz ve güvenilir bir yöntemdir
