A Qualitative Research for the Life Experiences of Wives and Men Who Have a Diagnosis of Schizophrenia

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the lives of women with a spouse diagnosed with schizophrenia and spouses diagnosed with schizophrenia before and after the diagnosis. A total of 28 people, 14 males and their spouses, who were diagnosed with schizophrenia participated in the study. The qualitative research method was used in the study and semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 14 couples. The study was conducted with men and their spouses diagnosed with schizophrenia who were treated in private health units. The interviews were divided into themes and sub-themes by thematic analysis method. In this study, the evaluation of the lives of men diagnosed with schizophrenia and their spouses (before and after the diagnosis), the difficulties experienced by these individuals and their reflections on the marital relationship were evaluated. According to the results of the study, the majority of couples experienced psychological, social and marital problems following the diagnosis of the disease. In addition, it has been observed that couples experience problems arising from the disease process, gender perspective and roles, and public perception.

Şizofreni Tanısı Olan Erkeklerin ve Eşlerinin Yaşam Deneyimlerine Yönelik Nitel Bir Araştırma

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, eşi şizofreni hastası olan kadınların ve şizofreni hastası eşin yaşantılarının derinlemesine bir şekilde incelenmesidir. Araştırmaya şizofreni tanısı almış 14 erkek ve eşleri olmak üzere toplam 28 kişi katılmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmış olup, 14 çiftle yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşmelerin neredeyse tamamı, katılımcıların ses kaydı alınmasına gönüllü olmamasından dolayı, görüşme esnasında yazı ile kaydedilmiştir. Çalışma, özel bir psikiyatri kliniğinde tedavi gören şizofreni tanısı almış erkekler ve eşleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşmeler tematik analiz yöntemiyle temalara ve alt temalara ayrılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile şizofreni tanısı almış erkeklerin ve eşlerinin yaşantılarının (hastalık öncesi ve sonrası) değerlendirilmesi, bu bireylerin yaşadığı güçlükler ve tüm bunların evlilik ilişkisine olan yansımaları değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre çiftlerin büyük çoğunluğunun, hastalık tanısı sonrasında psikolojik, sosyal ve evlilikle ilişkili sorunlar yaşadığı görülmüştür.
