KENT MEKÂNINI GÖRME BİÇİMLERİ: GÖRME ENGELLİ KENT KATILIMCILARININ ÇEKTİĞİ FOTOĞRAFLAR İLE KENTİN KEŞFİ

Abstract

Beden, görür, duyar, koklar, hisseder ve tat alır. Peki, bu deneyimin içinden görme duyusunu çıkarırsak, deneyim eksik mi kalır? Bu çalışma, görme engelli bireylerin kentsel mekanla nasıl ilişki kurduklarını, bu ilişkinin belirleyicilerinin neler olduğunu anlamaya ve anlatmaya çalışmaktadır. Bu ilişkiyi anlatmak için de fotoğraf araç olarak kullanılmıştır. Görme engelli katılımcı, fotoğrafı, çevresiyle kurduğu ilişkinin bir dışavurumu olarak kullanmıştır. Aynı zamanda, mekanın diğer boyutlarını ve kodlarını nasıl açığa çıkardığını, kentin içindeki boşlukları nasıl doldurduğunu fotoğraf aracılığı ile tarif etmiştir. Fotoğraflarla bunu anlatabilmek için görme engelli katılımcılar, çalışma öncesinde 1 ay fotoğrafçılık eğitimi almışlardır. Çalışmanın yapılacağı kentsel doku olarak İzmir Kemeraltı Çarşısı seçilmiş ve bu dokunun gündelik hayatının içine sızılmıştır. Mekanları yürüyerek keşfeden 7 sonradan görme engelli kent katılımcısı, kentsel mekandaki taktiksel üretimlerini ve mekanla kurdukları etkileşimi çektikleri fotoğraflarla anlatmaya çalışmışlardır. Yürüyüş sırasındaki olayları içerecek bütün temsiller kare kare görme engelli tarafından belgelenmiştir. Aynı zamanda, sözlü anlatımlarla yürüyüş sırasında hangi taktiksel ve yaratıcı öğelerin olduğunu ve hangi durumlarda meydana geldiğini aktarmışlardır. Görme engelli birey tarafından çekilen fotoğraflarda bir görme engellinin mekandan ve toplumdan nasıl ayrıştığı somut haliyle görülmüştür. Bu makalenin sonunda, “Bir kör nasıl fotoğraf çekebilir?” sorusundan uzaklaşılıp asıl soru olan “Bir görme engelli neden fotoğraf çekmek ister?” sorusunun cevabı bulunmuştur.

Ways of Seeing Urban Space: City Exploration with Photos Taken by Visually Impaired People

Abstract

The body sees, hears, smells, feels and tastes. Well, if we remove the sense of sight from this experience, will the experience be incomplete? This study tries to understand and explain how visually impaired individuals relate to urban space and what the determinants of this relationship are. Photographs were used as a tool to explain this relationship. The late blind participant used the photograph as an expression of his/her relationship with the environment. At the same time, he/she described how he/she revealed the other dimensions and codes of the space and how he/she filled the spaces in the city through photography. In order to explain this with photographs, the late blind participants received photography training for 1 month before the study. İzmir Kemeraltı Bazaar was chosen as an urban context where the study is conducted and the daily life of bazaar was experienced. 7 late blind participants, who discovered the spaces on foot, tried to explain their tactical production in the urban space and their interaction with the space with their photographs. The late blind documented all the representations, including the events during the walk tour, frame by frame. At the same time, they narrated what tactical and creative elements were and in what situations they occurred during the walk through verbal descriptions. In the photographs taken by the late blinds, it is seen concretely how a visually impaired person separates from the place and society. At the end of this article, the question "How can a blind person take a picture?" has been moved away and the answer of the question “Why would a blind person want to take pictures?” has been found.
