The purpose of this descriptive study was to
determine the level of the patient rights-consciousness of the 71 adult
patients staying in the Medical Faculty of Ankara at the University Ibn-i Sina
Hospital. The researchers obtained the data of this research by developing an
interview form including Patient’s rights. The form has been prepared by the
help of the Patients Rights Regulation of the Ministry of Health. 63% of the
people having participated in our research are women while %38 of them are men.
%74.6 of them are lower the 65 years, and %25,4 of those are over 65 years.
With respect to the education status, %14.4 of the patients are illiterate and
36.6% of them had primary education, %42,3 of them had high school education,
7% of them are university graduates. %14,1 of those participating in our
research have got the education of patient rights; however, 85,9% of them have
not got the education of patient rights.
This research shows that although the
patients have not got any education about the patient’s right, patients are
aware of their rights. It is also found that, although there is not
statistically difference between the level of patients’ knowledge and age,
gender, the history of the hospital stay before (p>0.05), there are
statistically difference between the level of the patient’s right knowledge and
the economic status of the patients and the level of education (p<0.05).
In accordance with explored results, it is
clear that the patients need to be more informed about the rights of the patients,
and they should be encouraged to claim their rights whenever it is needed.
