KOCAELİ MÜZESİ’NDEN MÜHÜRLÜ TİCARİ AMPHORALAR

Abstract

Kocaeli Müzesi’nde yer alan beş adet tamamı korunmuş mühürlü amphora bu makalenin konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Amphoralar,antik dönemde, çoğunlukla deniz aşırı taşımacılıkta ürünlerin sevkiyatında kullanılan ve kentler arasındaki ticari bağlantıları ortaya koyan kaplardır. Çeşitli yollarla Kocaeli Müzesi’ne kazandırılmış olan bu amphoralar da, Kocaeli ve çevresine ulaşmış ürünlerin kökeni, niteliği, ve kentin ve içinde bulunduğu Bithynia bölgesinin Klasik Çağlardaki ticari faaliyetlerini belgelemektedir. Amphoralar üzerinde yer alan mühürler, amphoraların üretim tarihlerinin daha kesin olarak belirlenmesine yardımcı olmaktadırlar.Müzede yer alan amphoraların 3 adedi, Rhodos, 1 adedi Knidos ve sonuncusu da Thasos kökenlidir. İncelenen amphoraların bazıkulplarının kırık veya üzerlerindeki mühürlerin çok aşınmış olması nedeniyle mühürlerin hepsi korunmamıştır. Ancak, mühürlerinin her ikisi de iyi korunmuş olan bir Rhodos amphorası, amphoranın üreticisi ve onu tarihleyen yöneticinin ilişkisini ilk kez ortaya koyarak, üreticinin faaliyet döneminin yeniden değerlendirilmesine olanak sağlaması açısından önem taşımaktadır.

STAMPED COMMERCIAL AMPHORAE FROM KOCAELİ MUSEUM

Abstract

Five complete stamped amphorae held in Kocaeli Museum are discussed in this paper. Amphorae are the vases which were used mainly for marine transportation of goods and were the indications of commercial ties among cities in antiquity. The amphorae examined in this paper were brought in varied ways to Kocaeli Museum and give clues about the origin and nature of goods arrived in Kocaeli and its environs and the commercial activities of Bithynia Region in the Classical Ages. Stamps on the amphorae facilitate to date the production periods of amphorae more precisely. The amphorae in the museum are originated from Rhodes 3 , Knidos 1 and Thasos 1 . The stamps on these amphorae were not all preserved since some handles are broken or the stamps are badly rubbed out. But among them, stamps of one Rhodian amphora are especially important as they point out the association of the eponym and the producer for the first time permitting to reconsider the activity period of the producer
