The city Urfa, whose history dates to 12 000 years ago has always been mentioned with water. The watercourse of the River Daysan, one of the foremost rivers of the city in ancient times was altered through time, but the ancient route of the river running through the city has managed to exist so far. Its water flowing eastward from the Lake Halilürrahman, today called ‘Halilürrahman Water’, met the water needs of people running through inns, public baths, mosques and houses as late as 50 years ago and earned its surrounding with a unique and aesthetic value. Today, there is a kind of damage in the watercourse axis which once represented one of the most decent local and monumental examples of architecture throughout its course. The historical waterway well known by the local people but not acquiring due respect, value and conservation as well as the traditional structure along its course is facing destruction as long as the damage it is exposed to continues. In this study, the waterway known as Halilürrahman Water has been scrutinized with respect to civic texture and the architectural values of the watercourse already facing destruction as well as the problems related to its preservation have been identified. Within the scope of this study, it is both aimed to make the significance of this watercourse invaluable to our architectural heritage more explicit and contribute to its sustenance by putting several suggestions as to its preservation
