THE 11 Β -HYDROXYSTEROİD DEHYDROGENASE ENZYME AND OBESİTY

Abstract

There is increasing evidence that cortisol produces adverse metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes on adipose tissue. In obesity, 11 β HSD1 upregulation has been shown to correlate with waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), and insulin resistance. 11 β HSD1 is downregulated in Cushing’s syndrome. It is indicated that it is adjusted with local cortisol levels independently of plasma levels. It is thought that 11b β HSD1 plays a complex pathophysiological role in metabolic syndrome and obesity. Clinical trials are planned for the efficacy of selective 11 β HSD1 inhibitors

Abstract

Adipoz dokuda kortizolün metabolik sendrom ve tip 2 diyabet oluşturduğuna dair kanıtlar artmaktadır. Obezitede 11 β HSD1 upregülasyonunun bel çevresi, VKİ ve insulin direnci ile korelasyonu gösterilmiştir. Cushing’s sendromunda 11 β HSD1 “downregule”dir. Plazma seviyelerinden bağımsız olarak lokal kortizol düzeyleriyle ayarlandığına işaret etmektedir. Metabolik sendrom ve enerji paylaşımında 11 β HSD1’nin komplex patofizyolojik bir rol oynadığı düşünülmektedir. Selektif 11 β HSD1 inhibitörlerinin etkinliğine yönelik klinik çalışmalar planlanmaktadır.
