DETERMINATION OF FACTORS AFFECTING THE ACCOMMODATION PREFERENCES OF TURKISH BUSINESS PEOPLE: A RESEARCH ATFOUR AND FIVE STARS HOTELS IN MERSIN AND ADANA
Abstract
In order to increase their productivity, the accommodation companies have segmented their potential customers with different needs, desires and preferences based on specific characteristics and chosen some of these segments as the target markets. Increasing the number of business trips due to the rapid developments in world trade has taken business people segment more important particularly for the city hotels. Therefore in this study it has been aimed to determine the factors affecting the accommodation preferences of business people. Questionnaire technique and quota sampling was used for gathering data. The questionnaire was applied to 600 business people at 10 four- or five-star hotel managements operating in the center of Mersin and Adana, between the months of April-December 2011. Six factors, namely activity opportunities, hotel image, convenience of transportation, hygiene factors, working environment, and care and speed, which were affective in the accommodation preferences of business people,had been determined. Some suggestions had been developed based on the findings for accommodation companies, public institutions and new researchers
