Warfarin is used
in cardiovascular disease as an oral anticoagulant agent. Spontaneous
hemorrhage is one of the major adverse effects of warfarin. In rare cases,
warfarin can cause spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage which may be fatal.
In this study, presented a case that death due to massive retroperitoneal
hemorrhage related to suicidal warfarin intake. Our case was a 17-year-old
female. According to medical and judicial records, she was found unconsciously
at her home and died immediately after reached the hospital. External
examination revealed marked pale appearance on the skin and mucosal surfaces.
There was no any traumatic finding at external examination. The autopsy
revealed that a wide hematoma extending from retroperitoneal area to pelvis.
Toxicological analysis showed the warfarin in the blood and bile specimens. All
forensic investigation file and postmortem examinations evaluated and the case
was thought suicide as the origin.
Cause of death
was non-specific cases, an autopsy is done the necessity and importance of
postmodern review once again.
