Türkiye’deki Devlet ve Vakıf Üniversitelerinin Diş Hekimliği Fakültelerinin Müfredatlarının İletişim Becerileri Eğitimi Açısından Karşılaştırılması

Öz

Amaç: Diş hekimlerinin etkin iletişim becerilerine sahip olmaları hem kaliteli sağlık hizmeti sunulması hem de doğru sağlık çıktılarına ulaşılabilmesi açısından önemlidir. Bu çalışma, Türkiye’de bulunan devlet ve vakıf üniversitelerindeki diş hekimliği fakültelerinin müfredatlarını iletişim becerileri eğitimi açısından karşılaştırarak iletişim becerileri eğitimine dikkat çekmeyi ve diş hekimliği fakültelerinde yaygınlaştırılmasını sağlamayı amaçlamaktadır.

Gereç ve Yöntem: Türkiye’de devlet ve vakıf üniversitelerinde bulunan diş hekimliği fakültelerinin
müfredatları; 2020-2021 akademik yılını (2020 yılı güz ve 2021 yılı bahar dönemi) kapsayacak şekilde; iletişim dersinin bulunması, sayısı, zorunlu ya da seçmeli olması, ders saati, bulunduğu dönem ve dersi veren eğitimcinin uzmanlık alanı açısından incelenerek karşılaştırılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda ulaşılan verilere içerik analizi yapılmıştır.

Bulgular: Bu Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, devlet üniversitelerinde %42,7 oranında iletişim dersleri bulunmakta ve bu derslerin %81,8’i seçmeli ders kategorisinde yer almaktadır. Vakıf üniversitelerinde ise iletişim dersi oranı %8’dir ve bu derslerin %69,2’si seçmeli ders kategorisinde yer almaktadır. İletişim dersinin devlet üniversitelerinde haftalık 1 saat (%54.5), dönemlik 14 saat; vakıf üniversitelerinde ise
haftalık 2 saat (%69,2), dönemlik 30 saat olarak verildiği tespit edilmiştir. İletişim derslerini yürüten eğitimcilerden sadece altısı iletişim alanında (tamamı devlet üniversitelerinde) uzmanıdır.

Sonuç: Çalışma, iletişim eğitiminin diş hekimliği müfredatlarında zorunlu olarak yer almasını, her yıl içeriğinin geliştirilerek müfredat boyunca yaygınlaştırılmasını ve içeriğinin bir diş hekimi ile koordineli olarak belirlenerek bir iletişim uzmanı tarafından verilmesini önermektedir.

Comparison of Communication Skills Education in Dental Faculty Curriculum of State and Foundation in Türkiye

Öz

Aim: It is important for dentists to have effective communication skills in terms of both providing quality health services and achieving correct health outcomes. This study aims to draw attention to communication skills education and ensure its expansion in dentistry faculties by comparing the curriculum of dentistry faculties in state and foundation universities in Turkey in terms of communication skills education.

Material and Method: The curriculum of dentistry faculties in state and foundation universities in Turkey were examined and compared in terms of the presence of a communication course, the number of the course, whether it is compulsory or elective, the course hours, the period in which the course is
existing and the field of expertise of the instructor teaching the course, covering the 2020-2021 academic year (fall semester 2020 and spring semester 2021).

Results: The study revealed that 42.7% of state universities offer communication courses and 81.8% of these courses are in the elective course category. In foundation universities, the rate of communication courses is 8% and 69.2% of these courses are in the elective course category. It has been determined
that communication course is 1 hour per week (54.5%) and 14 hours per semester in state universities, 2 hours per week (69.2%) and 30 hours per semester in foundation universities. Only six of the instructor teaching communication courses are experts in the field of communication (all at state universities).

Conclusion: The study recommends that communication education should be included in the dentistry curriculum as a compulsory course, that its content should be developed and expanded throughout the curriculum every year, and that its content should be determined in coordination with a dentist and
taught by a communication expert.
