Language Development of Bilingual Children

Abstract

There is a question that parents, teachers and the specialists wonder about. If we want a child to be bilingual, what must we do to achieve this? Must we talk the two languages at the same time or must we teach each language one at a time? To solve this issue we looked at different theories. The research carried on bilingual children brings to light very new points of view. The result of these researches indicates that talking two languages simultaneously does not affect the intelligence of the child negatively as was believed previously. Learning two or three languages does not effect the language development of the child either. Does keeping the two languages separate when the child is learning two languages simultaneously seem to be the best method that makes learning more effective? This paper tries to answer that question.

Çift Dilli Çocukların Dil Gelişimi

Abstract

Öğretmenlerin de, uzmanların da, anne-babaların da aklını kurcalayan bir soru vardır. Çocuğun çift dilli olmasını istersek bunu nasıl sağlamalıyız? Aynı anda iki dili de konuşarak mı? Yoksa dilleri teker teker öğreterek mi? Bu konuyu araştırırken olumlu, olumsuz yönlerini ele alarak çeşitli teorileri inceledik. Dil araştırmaları, özellikle çift dilli çocuklarla yapılan araştırmalar ve yeni gelişmeler konuya çok farklı bakış açıları getirebiliyor. Sonuçta eskiden inanıldığı gibi iki dili birden öğrenmenin çocuğun zekasını etkilemediğinin saptandığını gördük. Aynca iki ya da üç dil öğrenmenin dil gelişimini etkilemediği anlaşılıyor. Çocuğa dil öğretirken öğrenmeyi olumlu yoldan etkileyen metod hangisidir? Bu soruyu da cevaplamaya çalıştık
