Emperyal Güçlerin Suriye Politikalarında Kürtlerin Rolü

Year 2025, Issue: 44, 24 - 49, 26.05.2025

Abstract

Year 2025, Issue: 44, 24 - 49, 26.05.2025

Abstract

Global powers have historically used minorities to protect their political, economic and geopolitical interests. Imperial policies incite ethnic, religious, sectarian, regional and cultural differences in colonized countries against each other and facilitate the exploitation of natural resources. Accordingly, this study compares the cooperation of the French mandate regime and the US with the Syrian Kurds, arguing that these powers have instrumentalized the Kurds for their interests and ideological motivations. Their imperial policies have deepened social and political divisions in Syria and threatened its territorial integrity. The Kurds have attempted to achieve autonomy or independence by helping global powers, often leading to the association of the Kurdish identity with imperialism and separatism. Besides, the use of Kurds as a trump card by global powers in the Middle East poses an existential threat to regional countries and increases regional instability.
