The Place of Energy in Eastern Acting Practices and Its Reflection on Eugenio Barba’s Anthropological Theater Works

Abstract

This article was written in order to determine to reveal how the actors use energy in Eastern traditional theater practices of Noh, Kathakali, and Jingju, tracing their connections with culture, and how Western practitioner Eugenio Barba who intensively examines / incorporates Eastern forms into his work, is perceived and transformed in his anthropological theater studies. In the 20th century, the integrity of the body and mind, which came to the forefront in the acting-oriented approaches in the West, was directly associated with the concepts of energy and presence, and became the main subject of Barba's work at the pre-narrative level. In these studies, energy has been taken as a pre-cultural universal principles of acting, abstracting from its cultural connections. For the eastern actor, it is seen that energy is perceived as an element intertwined with culture.

Enerjinin Doğulu Oyunculuk Pratiklerinde Yeri ve Eugenio Barba’nın Antropolojik Tiyatro Çalışmalarına Yansıması

Abstract

Bu makale çalışması, No, Kahtakali ve Jingju’dan yola çıkarak Doğulu geleneksel tiyatro uygulamalarında oyuncunun enerji kullanımını araştırmak, kültür ile bağlantılarının izini sürmek ve Doğulu formları yoğun olarak inceleyen/çalışmalarına dâhil eden Batılı uygulamacılardan Eugenio Barba’nın antropolojik tiyatro çalışmalarında nasıl algılandığını ve dönüştüğünü tespit etmek amacıyla kaleme alınmıştır. 20. yüzyılda Batı’da oyunculuk odaklı yaklaşımlarda ön plana çıkan beden ve zihin bütünlüğü doğrudan enerji ve mevcudiyet kavramlarıyla ilişkilendirilmiş, Barba’nın anlatım öncesi düzeyde çalışmalarının da temel konusu haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmalarda enerji, kültürel bağlantılarından soyutlanarak oyunculuğa ilişkin kültür öncesi evrensel ilkeler olarak ele alınmıştır. Doğulu oyuncu içinse enerjinin, kültürle iç içe bir unsur olarak kavrandığı görülmüştür.
