Akademik Yayınlar İçin Tasarlanan Görsel Özetlerin Arnheim’in Kuvvet ve Denge Teorisine Göre Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bilimsel dünyanın genişlemesi ve bilginin internet sayesinde erişebilirliğinin kolaylaşması hayat boyu öğrenme olanaklarının çeşitliliğini ve kalitesini de arttırmıştır. Sosyal medyanın varlığı ve yaygınlaşmasıyla ise öğrenmenin mekânsal yeri değişmiştir. Bunun sonucu olarak birçok yayınevi bu platformlara uygun formatta makalelerini yeniden düzenlemeye başlamıştır. Görsel özet (GÖ) adı verilen ve metinsel özetleri tek bir imaja dönüştürerek dijital ortamlarda paylaşımı kolaylaştıran bu tasarımlar bilimsel yayınların yaygınlaşmasına yardımcı olmaktadır. Çalışmada akademik yayınlarında GÖ kullanan dergilerin resmi sosyal medya (Twitter/X) hesaplarında paylaştıkları GÖ’lerin Arnheim’in denge ve kuvvet teorisine göre değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı sosyal medyada akademik yayınların yaygınlaşmasını görsel algı değerlerinin kullanarak arttıran GÖ’lerin kuvvet ve denge teorisine göre analiz edilmesi ve algıya olumlu etkisinin ortaya çıkarılmasıdır. Çalışmada doküman tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda GÖ’lerde görsel öğelerin algı kuramları dikkate alınarak tasarlanmasının önemli olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Özellikle denge ve kuvvet kavramlarının görsel öğelerdeki hiyerarşide anlama ve algılamaya yardımcı olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Çalışmanın tasarımcılara ve bilimsel yayınlarını GÖ’ler ile yaygınlaştırmak isteyen bilim insanlarına bakış açısı kazandırması beklenmektedir.

Evaluation of Visual Abstracts Designed for Academic Publications According to Arnheim's Force and Balance Theory

Abstract

The expansion of the scientific world and the ease of access to information via the internet have also increased the variety and quality of lifelong learning opportunities. With the existence and proliferation of social media, the spatial location of learning has changed. As a result, many publishing houses have started to reorganize their articles in formats suitable for these platforms. These designs, called visual abstracts (VAs), which facilitate sharing in digital environments by converting textual summaries into a single image, help to popularize scientific publications. In this study, the VAs shared by journals using VAs in their academic publications on their official social media (Twitter/X) accounts were evaluated according to Arnheim's theory of balance and force. The aim of the study is to analyze VAs that increase the popularity of academic publications on social media by using visual perception values. According to the theory of force and balance and to reveal their positive effects on perception. The document scanning method was used in the study. As a result of the study, it was concluded that it is important to design visual elements in VAs by taking into account perception theories. It was revealed that the concepts of balance and force in particular help understanding and perception in the hierarchy of visual elements. It is expected that the study will provide perspective to designers and scientists who want to disseminate their scientific publications through VAs
