How Should Turkey Prepare for the Post-Qaboos Oman?

Abstract

Oman has been visible on the international stage after 1970. Oman's visibility on the international stage is related to his neutrality policy with Sultan Qaboos. Oman has also become an important country in the Middle East with the discovery of oil. It has pursued a policy of balance between Arab countries and Iran. On the other hand, it has maintained deep ties to both the Asian Sub-Continent and East Africa. Sultan Qaboos made modernization moves in Oman. Thus, Oman was mentioned as the Swiss of the Middle East. However, Sultan Qaboos is ill and it is not clear who will be the leader after his death. Therefore, to protect the interests of Turkey should be prepared for the period after Sultan Qaboos. This paper focuses on Oman and Sultan Qaboos and discusses how to prepare for the after of Sultan Qaboos.

Türkiye Sultan Kabus Sonrası Umman İçin Nasıl Hazırlanmalı?

Abstract

1970 yılından sonra uluslararası sahnede görünür olan Umman, takındığı tarafsızlık politikası ve keşfedilen petrolle zamanla Orta Doğu’da önemli bir ülke haline gelmiştir. Arap ülkeleriyle İran arasındaki denge politikasının yanı sıra hem Asya Alt Kıtasında hem de Doğu Afrika’daki derin bağları Umman’ı daha da önemli bir konuma yükseltmiştir. Sultan Kabus ile modernleşme hamleleri yapan Umman birliğini kurma yoluna gitmiş böylece Orta Doğu’nun İsviçre’si olarak anılmaya başlamıştır. Ancak Umman’ın uzun süreli lideri Sultan Kabus’un hastalığı kendisinden sonraki dönemi önemli kılmaktadır. Bu bakımdan Türkiye’nin de Orta Doğu ve Asya Alt Kıtasındaki menfaatleri nedeniyle Sultan Kabus sonrasına hazırlanması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada Umman ve Sultan Kabus üzerinde durulmakta ve Sultan Kabus sonrasına nasıl hazırlanılması gerektiğine işaret edilmektedir.
