Turkey’s “Chess Party” in the South Caucasus

Abstract

States, as political actors, always maintain a certain urgency in their geopolitical environment. There are times when they are big and influential actors, and their role may be relatively small at some point in the history. Such an actor is Turkey, which due to its geographical location has many advantages, in addition to which Turkey borders the three newly formed countries in the region as a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union: Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan (through Nakhichevan land border). Taking advantage of these opportunities, Turkey has a fair goal to fit the role of regional leader and therefore it combines all these components in accordance with its interests.
