Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effect of childhood traumas on young adults’ knowledge and awareness of child molesters. For this purpose, a relational screening model was employed. The study sample consisted of 511 young individuals, including 269 (52.6%) women and 242 (47.4%) men. The participants were between 18 and 35 years of age, with a mean age of 22.31±5.10. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, and The Scale of Knowledge and Awareness About Child Molesters. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression analyses were used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that young adults have a high level of knowledge and awareness regarding child molesters, including their characteristic features and grooming/abuse strategies. Additionally, participants were found to have been exposed to childhood psychological traumas. The results of the study show that young adults with a history of trauma tend to develop higher levels of knowledge and awareness about child molesters.

Çocukluk çağı travmalarının çocuk cinsel istismarcılarına yönelik bilgi ve farkındalığa etkisi

Abstract

Bu araştırma gençlerin çocuk cinsel istismarcılarına yönelik bilgi ve farkındalık düzeyleri üzerinde çocukluk çağı ruhsal travmalarının etkisini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışmada ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 269’u (%52,6) kadın ve 242’si (%47,4) erkek olmak üzere 511 genç katılmıştır. 18-35 yaş aralığındaki katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 22,31±5,10’dir. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Çocukluk Çağı Ruhsal Travma Ölçeği ve Çocuk Cinsel İstismarcılarına Yönelik Bilgi ve Farkındalık Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistiklerin yanı sıra Pearson korelasyon ve çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizleri uygulanmıştır. Bulgular gençlerin, çocuk cinsel istismarcılarına, istismarcıların karakteristik özelliklerine ve grooming/istismar yöntemlerine ilişkin yüksek düzeyde bilgi ve farkındalığa sahip olduklarını göstermektedir. Ayrıca gençlerin çocukluk çağı ruhsal travmalarına maruz kaldıkları tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları travma geçmişi olan gençlerin, çocuk cinsel istismarcılarına dair daha fazla bilgi ve farkındalık geliştirme eğiliminde olduklarını göstermektedir.
