Occupational socialization and psychological capital levels of Physical education teachers

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to analyse Occupational Socialization and Psychological capital levels of Physical Education Teachers.

Methods: Descriptive methods were used in the study. The universe of the research was composed of 31.976 physical education teachers working in high and equivalent schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the year of 2016-2017 in 81 provinces in Turkey, and also the sample of the research was composed of 500 Physical Education Teachers. In order to collect the data of the study, “Positive Psychological Capital Scale” developed by Tösten and Özgan (2014) and “Professional Socialization Scale” developed by Özbek and Ercan (2014) were used. Psychological Capital Scale and Professional Socialization Scale of Physical Education Teachers’ are 5 likert type scale. Since the data were found to be normal distributions, t-test and ANOVA tests were used for parametric tests.

Results: According to research findings, there was no significant difference in the social and psychological capital levels of physical education teachers according to gender, marital status and education variables. There was a statistically meaningful difference in the views of occupational socialization and psychological capital with respect to the marital status of participants.

Conclusion: As a result of the research, physical education teachers' psychological capital and occupational socialization levels were found to be high.
