Arabic Records Examples in Bursa Sharia Court Rulings (Judicial Record of Bursa No. B-18, Dated 1008-1009 / 1599-1600)
Abstract
Some of the Ottoman legal/judicial rulings and records were recorded in Arabic, so it was difficult for those who did not have sufficient knowledge of this language to benefit from these records. In order for us to be able to benefit from it and translate it, it is necessary to have professionalism and specialization in the Arabic language. It is for this reason that we see many Arabic legal records - even those in Istanbul from court rulings - that have not yet been translated.
In this article, Record No. B-18 was chosen for study as an example of Ottoman records written in Arabic and translated into contemporary Turkish for understanding. The topics discussed in these records and judgments are also clarified. In addition, Arabic praises and nicknames in the record are also translated into Turkish. Also, because these Arabic documents were registered in the Ottoman records in a certain way and in well-known formats, this helped researchers to benefit from the records and other legal restrictions and made it easier for them to search.
