Error Types in Panoramic Imaging

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 14 - 23, 26.06.2025

Abstract

Panoramic radiography is a key diagnostic tool in dentistry and medicine, providing a broad view of the maxillofacial region, including the teeth, jaws, temporomandibular joints, and sinuses. Despite its advantages, the diagnostic accuracy of panoramic radiographs may be reduced by various errors. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency and types of errors in panoramic radiographs taken with digital devices. The study included 2,000 panoramic images from patients aged 16 to 82, acquired using a Morita Veraviewepocs 2D panoramic unit. Errors in positioning and technical execution were classified according to established criteria, with a focus on patient preparation and positioning. The results showed that 92.1% of the radiographs contained errors, primarily related to patient positioning, such as improper tongue placement (53.3%) and head rotation (41.7%). The study found that the most common error was patient positioning, accounting for 71.1% of all errors. The findings emphasize the importance of proper patient preparation and positioning in reducing errors and improving the quality of diagnostic radiographs. This study contributes to enhancing operator training and emphasizes the need for attention to patient positioning to minimize diagnostic inaccuracies and unnecessary radiation exposure.

Panoramik Görüntülemede Hata Türleri

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 14 - 23, 26.06.2025
