Çevre Sosyolojisine Kültürel Bir Bakış

Abstract

Endüstrileşen dünya çevreye geri dönülemez zararlar vermesine rağmen bu durum hala toplum içinde yeterli yankı uyandıramamaktadır. Bazı kesimler tarafından iklim değişikliğinin bir aldatmaca olarak görülmesi ve çevreyi koruma amacıyla düzenlenen toplumsal hareketlerin yetersiz kalması bu alanda uygun politika adımlarının atılmasının önüne geçmektedir. Bu doğrultuda toplumların çevreyle olan ilişkilerini inceleyen bir alan olarak ortaya çıkan çevre sosyolojisi, 1970’li yıllardan günümüze kadar yeterince gelişim gösterememiş ve klasik sosyoloji tarafından kabul edilir seviyeye gelememiştir. Buna ek olarak çevre sosyolojisi, çeşitli toplumlarda çevre konularına farklı bakış açıları geliştirilmesini de tam olarak açıklamaktan hala uzaktır. Çevre sosyolojisinin bu yönde gelişmesi için kültürel değerleri dikkate alması gerekmektedir. Bu amaçla mevcut çalışma kapsamında çevre sosyolojisi ve kültür arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Literatür incelendiğinde özellikle gelişmiş ülkelerde çevre hareketleri ve kamu politikalarının kültür ile ilişkilendirildiği görülmektedir. Ancak bu alanda yapılan çalışmaların oldukça sınırlı olması yeterli bir teorik altyapı oluşturulmasını engellemektedir. Özellikle gelişmiş ülke örnekleri dışına çıkılarak çeşitli ülkeler için saha çalışmalarının yapılması bireylerin çevreye bakış açısı, davranışları ve istekleri ile kültürel altyapıları arasındaki ilişkinin anlaşılmasına yardımcı olacaktır.

A Cultural Perspective on Environmental Sociology

Abstract

Although the industrializing world causes irreversible damage to the environment, this situation still does not have enough impact in society. The fact that climate change is seen as a hoax by some groups and that social movements organized to protect the environment are inadequate prevents appropriate policy steps being taken in this area. In this context, environmental sociology, which emerged as a field that examines the relationships of societies with the environment, has not developed sufficiently since the 1970s and has not reached a level acceptable to classical sociology. In addition, environmental sociology is still far from fully explaining the development of different perspectives on environmental issues in various societies. In order for environmental sociology to develop in this direction, it must take cultural values into account. For this purpose, the relationship between environmental sociology and culture was examined within the scope of the current study. When the literature is examined, it is seen that environmental movements and public policies are associated with culture, especially in developed countries. However, the limited number of studies in this field prevents the creation of an adequate theoretical infrastructure. Conducting field studies for various countries, especially going beyond the examples of developed countries, will help understand the relationship between individuals' environmental perspectives, behaviors and desires, and their cultural backgrounds
