VETERİNER HEKİMLİKTE LAZERLERİN KULLANIMI

Year 2019, Volume: 10 Issue: 2, 60 - 70, 21.08.2019

Abstract

Son
yıllarda Veteriner hekimlikte tıbbi lazerlerin kullanılmasında bir artış söz
konusudur.

USE OF LASERS IN VETERINARY MEDICINE

Year 2019, Volume: 10 Issue: 2, 60 - 70, 21.08.2019

Abstract

In recent years
there has been an increase in the use of medical lasers in veterinary medicine.
The fact that laser devices are very expensive in the early times has been a
limiting factor, especially in our country. Over the course of nearly twenty
years, both the ease of use and prejudice related to its use, as well as the
fact that many studies and advantages have been demonstrated, have led to an
increase in the use of lasers. In recent years, the use of high-power lasers is
also in question.

The use of lasers
in veterinary medicine has focused primarily on the use of strong carbon
dioxide lasers for laser surgery. For this purpose, they have been used very
successfully with minimally invasive surgery with closed methods as well as
many open surgeries. Lasers containing Nd: YAG (1064 nm), the diode (805/980 nm)
and Ho: YAG (2100 nm) lasers were used in both contact and non-contact
processes.

There has been an
increase in the application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or laser
biostimulation for certain conditions in veterinary medicine in recent years.
Class 2, 3R, 3B and 4 lasers are now used as LLLT devices. Veterinarians have
first used LLLT devices for the treatment of various conditions, including pain
management and improved wound healing (chronic and acute). There is still much
to learn about this technology, but it is now increasingly recognized by
veterinarians as a useful treatment. Nevertheless, more controlled clinical
studies should be performed to increase knowledge on this subject.
In
this review, it is aimed to give information about laser types used in veterinary
medicine in Turkey.
