ANTİOKSİDAN VİTAMİNLER VE AĞIR METAL TOKSİSİTESİ ÜZERİNE ETKİLERİ

Year 2019, Volume: 10 Issue: 3, 135 - 151, 30.12.2019

Abstract

ANTIOXIDANT VITAMINS AND ITS EFFECTS ON HEAVY METAL TOXICITY

Year 2019, Volume: 10 Issue: 3, 135 - 151, 30.12.2019

Abstract

Many defense systems known antioxidants have been developed in the body to prevent the effects of free radicals. One of the body's defense systems is endogenous antioxidants; vitamins A (β-carotene), C and E . Especially heavy metal pollution such as mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) poses a threat to the life of all living things. The common mechanism that determines the toxicity of heavy metals is the formation of oxidative stress. Antioxidant defense may be insufficient when intense oxidative stress occurs. In this review, the effects of antioxidant vitamins in toxicity caused by heavy metals and especially in the prevention against free radical formation were evaluated.
