Photography in the Age of Social Distance

Öz

In her article, Marianne Hirsch examined the pandemic process that has affected the world globally for the last one year and how this is reflected in photography in terms of social distancing. The quarantine period that emerged with the coronavirus has negatively affected many areas as well as it limited the conditions that allow to take photographs. In this context, photographers and image-makers had to find new ways. According to Hirsch, photographers have difficulty in the absence of the necessary middle-distance that provides sincerity and testimony such disaster situations. In this article, by evaluating the social and cultural reflections of the pandemic through photography, Hirsch, discussed various photographic projects related to Covid-19 and what role they play in terms of testimony and impact.

Sosyal Mesafe Çağında Fotoğraf

Marianne Hirsch yazısında son bir yıldır küresel anlamda tüm dünyaya etki eden pandemi sürecini ve bunun sosyal mesafelenme açısından fotoğrafa nasıl yansıdığını incelemiştir. Koronavirüs ile ortaya çıkan karantina dönemi birçok alanı olumsuz etkilediği gibi fotoğraf çekmeye olanak sağlayan koşulları da sınırlı hale getirmiştir. Bu kapsamda fotoğrafçılar ve imge üreten sanatçılar yeni yollar bulmak zorunda kalmışlardır. Hirsch’e göre bu tarz felaket durumlarında samimiyeti ve tanıklığı sağlayan gerekli orta-mesafenin yokluğunda, fotoğrafçılar zorlanmaktadırlar. Bu yazıda Hirsch, pandeminin sosyal ve kültürel yansımalarını fotoğraf üzerinden değerlendirerek, Covid-19 ile ilgili çeşitli fotoğraf projelerini ve bunların tanıklık ve etki açısından nasıl bir rol üstlendiğini ele almıştır.
